In this week’s episode of Behind The Bass, I talk about Blues con Clave, addressing both the music that you’re hearing this week and the version that you’ll eventually hear on the album. There are some very intentional differences between the two versions, and I go into detail about the decisions I made to put it all together. In fact, there was a very specific inspiration behind the composition of the album version that I dig into here too. I learned a lot about playing montunos on the bass guitar through writing this song, so I share a big realization that I had – it effects how I play the montuno and tumbao on this song; it will also play out on all the future music for the bajo y clave project. As always, I’ve got a lot to say about my process behind the music!
